Sugar Sammys previous name: Suave Sammy

Sugar Sammy's previous name: Suave Sammy

Today on the show we interviewed Luca Somethingorother, a local musician who’s putting together the 2nd annual Ottawa Rock Lottery. It’s an event that mixes and matches local musicians to create something new, but not necessarily better - check out this story in the Xpress from last year by friend of the show Calum Marsh: http://www.ottawaxpress.ca/music/music.aspx?iIDArticle=14574

We also interviewed Sugar Sammy, the dashing comedian you see to the left of my post. He’s a Montreal-born Canadian who uses his Indian background for great comedic effect, and his unique upbringing allows him to do comedy in 4 different languages.

Unfortunately, what you didn’t hear today was the dulcet tones of my stunning co-host, Tina Hassannia. I missed last week due to illness, and Tina returned the favour - I don’t know how that’s a favour, but whatever. She was replaced with Hisham Kelati and Travis Boisvenue, but they can’t fill the void she’s left in my life this week. Get well soon, Tina.

Music:
Geoff Berner - Half German Girlfriend
Ennui - The Alphabet Song (Luca’s band)
Leif Vollebekk - In the midst of Blue & green (I think I have those colours wrong)

Tomorrow’s show might seem a little lonely, because as of right now my voice sounds like a cross between Al Pacino after a carton of cigarettes and Benicio Del Toro in Sin City. Tina has bravely stepped up and may be doing the interview that I cancelled because of sickness. Will it all work out? Who knows! Tune in tomorrow.

Why NOT practise in the stairwell?

We will be talking to Matt Cully from the awesome seven-member collective, Bruce Peninsula today. As I wrote in the XPress piece (which comes out Thursday), these guys can soften even the most atheistic asshole — a.k.a. me — into a pile of spiritual mush. Listen!

What else… I don’t know. Peter will have something, I’m sure. Maybe a SuperBowl wrap-up that will cause me eyes to glaze over.

Last but not least: (I think) the lovely Jessica Ruano will be giving us a quick run-down of some amazing February arts events.
